A Few Miscellaneous Thoughts
October 22nd, 2010 by Christopher WhiteI’m trying to start up a new business, and so it’s taking up most of my time. But I post a lot on Facebook, and sometimes my comments get wordy. So, never one to avoid killing multiple flying animals with one projectile, here are a few quotes by yours truly from Facebook, suitably edited for this format.
- Some folks posting comments on Facebook have taken the tack that the major political parties are corrupt, therefore they should all be avoided. Besides the obvious observation that then your vote wouldn’t matter (if those folks voted at all), it’s just not true that both major parties are alike at the root. For example, the reasons for our current economic depression are complex, but they can be traced back to their roots, and when you do, you find all of the perpetrators were Democrats/Progressives. The GOP has been filled up with neo-cons (mild Progressives) and RINOs (real Progressives), but that’s what the Tea Party was formed to get rid of. And yes, we’ll be holding the candidates feet to the fire. Why do you think the RNC is up in arms? So many of their cronies have lost their primary races to small-government, Constitution-loving conservatives that it’s scaring them. Bush was a neo-con. He did some good things, he did some bad things. McCain is a neo-con, too. But he would have been infinitely better than the man who is now POTUS. Obama has tripled the national debt, created a cadre of unelected “czars” to issue (probably illegal) regulations like no president has done before, etc. Bush in all his (supposed) high-handed, unconstitutional, dictator-like dealings never even got close to this.
- George Washington warned about political parties. But that’s what we have, so we have to live with it. The reality is that no third party has ever been
successful in modern times. And take a look at some of the countries with parliamentary systems with a dozen political parties or more — they have
unstable governments that can fall at any time. Makes for a situation where you can have the “tyranny of the minority.” Like it or not, we have a two-party system. And one party in particular has been hijacked by the Progressives. This was well known long before Glenn Beck had a TV show. We need to take the party that says it supports the Constitution and make it so! The U.S. Constitution is all that stands between us and a socialist/totalitarian state. Now, more than ever, we need to hold it up as the greatest achievement of man ever devised. - Christine O’Donnell has taken a lot of flack from liberals over her comments in a debate against her opponent where she asks him “Where in the Constitution is there anything about the separation of church and state?” He responds: “The First Amendment.” She questions that. Somewhere in there, the audience laughs — whether at her or him I can’t be sure. But she’s right. The separation of church and state is not in the Constitution. GASP! That phrase is taken from a quote by Thomas Jefferson. And usually misquoted (out of context). Oh, and by the way, the “news” anchor, Rachel Maddow, despite her condescending and elitist attitude, doesn’t have a clue to what she’s talking about. It’s pure revisionist history. (Aside, did you know that one of the first things the Communists did when they took over Russia was to rewrite the history books to make them agree with their propaganda; and one of the first things the Russians did after Communism fell was to fix those history books?) Well, I don’t give a flying fig newton what the courts have said about this “establishment clause.” What did the Founding Fathers actually mean? What does the Constitution actually say? That’s all that matters. Cleaning up a hundred years of judicial abuse is the subject for another post. Now here’s the point: the Constitution never says anything about taking religion out of government, or protecting government from religion — it’s all about protecting religion from government. Get it? The Constitution is all about protecting the people from government — not protecting government from the people or religion. That’s a very big difference from what the Progressives say. And it makes all the difference.
